When we booked our trip to New York earlier this year, I pretty much decided there and then that I was going to pick up the bag I had been eyeing for well over a year when at the airport. We were going to be away over my birthday, I had recently sold a couple of my other bags and therefore had some money I wanted to reinvest, so it was the perfect opportunity to finally get my hands on the Gucci Soho Disco bag with a bit of duty-free discount and enjoy it for the first time on our holiday.
I’ve had this bag in my sights for so long now! I remember seeing on one of my favourite bloggers as I was scrolling through Instagram and thinking how understated, timeless and classy it was. A bag that can take you from day to night and that looks good with pretty much anything. The Gucci Soho Disco bag comes in a few colours, the most popular being black, nude and red. There was definitely a lot of indecision from me as to whether I should go for black or nude (the nude is beautiful!) but I thought black would go with a little more, last you all through the seasons and not show signs of wear quite so much!
I called the Gucci store at Heathrow T3 ahead of our trip to check the bag was in stock and arrange to have one put aside for me to pick up. The staff we’re so friendly and helpful, this is definitely something I’d recommend doing if you’re hoping to treat yourself in duty free. You can even get items brought over from other terminals if it’s not available in the terminal you’re flying from.
So I thought I’d do a quick roundup (I don’t want to call it a review!) of my thoughts on this bag now I’ve put it through it’s paces with a holiday, commuting, a cycle ride and an evening out!
I love it. It looks great and the style means you can pretty much throw it on with anything, casual or smart, just change up using it as a hands-free cross-body to carrying it more like a clutch. It seems to hold it’s shape well although I do think I need to get better at popping the stuffing back inside when I’m using it, to help it stand the test of time. It doesn’t look it but it’s super spacious inside with two pockets for things you want to keep separate. It’s also really useful to have an adjustable strap and I love the gold hardware detail on the bag. The ONLY thing that I’m not so keen on (and this isn’t even a negative for me, just think it could be slightly better) is the zip is quite stiff to open. But maybe this will improve as it gets used more.
So all in all, I’m incredibly happy with my purchase, a little birthday treat to myself. It’s definitely a classic, if you’re considering investing I think this is great option.
